I followed step by step instructions, brom building my portfolio and testing, to networking.
This book was my career Bible, and now, I am Patti LaBelle and Tina Knowles (Beyonce's Mom) personal makeup artist. I've worked with Essence, Lucky Magazine, Ocean Drive, Judge Hatchett, Music videos, Jayz, Pharrell, and Fat Joe.
I've worked fashion shows for Stephen Burrows, award shows with Kanye West, Jamie Foxx and much more and I owe it to Crystal Wright!

Thanks to Crystal Wright's Hair, Makeup, and Fashion Stylist Career Guide, my career as a freelance hair and makeup artist now exists. Without that book I was completely lost and had no idea where to start. The Career Guide is full of information from Crystal and industry professionals. I believe there is no way to have the success you want as a freelance artist without this book.

Dear Crystal, I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you. Thank you so much for all you have shared through your "Hair, Makeup & Fashion Career Guide" as well as your DVDs of your "Packaging Your Portfolio Workshop". I am so looking forward to the workshop live in Atlanta but already I've learned so much from the DVDs and the career guide. Even though I've been doing makeup professionally for a very long time - you have helped me take my career to another level and I know that I will have even more work to do after attending the workshop live. I can't wait to work my butt off after soaking up everything I can get from you. You have so much to give and you give it so freely. You are truly an amazing woman!!

Hello,
My name is Skye Colding, and I am a fashion stylist in the making. First I want to say thanks again for sharing all information on being the best you can be in the industry, no matter what.Your portfolio workshop DVD's are the BOMB I've learned soo much.
I received your e-mail on the fashion styling course featured now in LA, just curious to know if this is something that would be a possibility to come to New York or the surrounding area. I live in DE 2 hrs. South from NY. I desperately want to be the best fashion stylist on the planet and I know it will take lots of training, dedication, and patience, so if it's only in LA I'll just have to make a way, because I am very motivated by your trainings.

What can I NOT say about “The Hair, Makeup, & Fashion Styling Career Guide”? It was the first tool I bought to jump start my career! In the book Crystal breaks it down to the nooks & crans. She doesn't leave anything out. Isn't that what you want from a career guide? This book has helped me focus on what I want and how to get it. If any artist is looking to take a direct path to success… this is it.

How should I explain how much Crystal Wright means to me. I cannot think of anybody else who had inspired me to move forward in my career than Crystal.
I first met crystal at the NYC Makeup show on May 18th, 2009. I can still remember she was wearing white-yellow dress. She looked charming and professional, confident, and bright as a sun. She was easy to talk to, had a nice smile and easy to understand that I can comfortably ask any questions. She explained what the portfolio class was all about and I knew immediately I had to take her class. At that time I was at nowhere in my career and I didn’t know who to turn to when it came to how to go further into the world of makeup industry.
In the “Packaging portfolio for Hair, Makeup, and fashion styling” course in New York, I learned how to be successful in the entertainment business. For example, how properly, professionally present your work to your clients and how to handle your business whether you are freelancing or have contract with company. Crystal was patient, and answered any questions we had. She gave us the comfort and the permission to email or to make a phone call to her when we needed to.
There were so many times I was saved by Crystal, including the time where I was assisting an artist on a fashion show. I was a part of the small team, where rest of the artists had 6 years + experience, and I had less than 2 years. I was not able to help the artist as much as I wanted to since my pace was slow and I was too nervous to perform with all I had, and he needed to re-do what I had just done on the models. I felt like a useless tool and I wanted to just disappear when I was told to get pizza for the rest of the team. (All the artists were still working) And then I called Crystal. I didn’t know who else to call! Although she was driving a car, she stopped the car for me to stay on the phone with me. She was there for me, even though there was no actual advice she can give on this matter. But of course she told me what I was able to do for the rest of the day. What I want to say here is that she cared for me and I felt like she was not only there for me as a mentor but also as a friend. I really do appreciate Crystal, and I will never forget what she did for me.
Now ironically I am personally assisting the artist I was working for on the day this incident happened, and I feel like it has happened for a reason. I am proud of Crystal, for being a successful mentor of thousands of students. And I am proud of myself for the steps I took to take her class and buying her books. I would not be where I am if I didn’t meet Crystal. You will be surprised how many talented artists do not carry on simple actions and complain they do not move forward. I suggest any artists and stylists in all level to invest in Crystal’s both class and book.
Crystal, thank you so much for what you do and what you are, and I am truly also your friend wherever you are and however you are.
LOVE xXX

Hi Crystal! How are you?
This is Kim Schaffer one of the young ladies you met at the Chicago Summit. I want to say again how much I really enjoyed meeting you in person for the first time. I was so impressed to see just how down to earth you really are.
Also, thank you again for my business card critique and keeping it utterly too real with me on my business goals and business name. I'm happy to report that after much pondering and praying I am going to change it to be all inclusive for potential clients.
P.S. I purchased your book, 30 DAYS AT 100 PERECENT and I must say it's a God-send! Although I haven't finished reading it yet, it has really helped me put my career and my life in focus. It's seriously provokes inspiration!!!!

I've been working for 4 months but tonite just really opened my eyes. Thank you.

Hi Crystal,
I had to tell you this. In '08 when you posted the notice that Stilista was looking for people for New York Fashion Week, I auditioned and made the team.
Since then I've done a few things with Sandy (the owner) and kept in touch. I wrote Sandy yesterday to thank her for the time she took looking at my work giving me feedback and just letting me help out when she needs someone.
I got a reply that I didn't see until this morning. She asked if I wanted to me a junior artist. I could barely type YES.
I wanted to share this with you becuae it was your letter that first got me started down the path. I've since taken your Packaging Your Portfolio Workshop. Lots of Prayer, our last conference call, along with a networking meeting I attended and speaking to Suzanne Patterson has really lit a fire under me. I'll be in NYC at the end of next month to shoot. I'm shooting with some of my areas best and brightest and I've even learned to pick a model.
Thank you

Hello, Crystal!
This is makeup artist, Angela Elliott, from Washington, DC. We met, in Chicago, at the Summit. I purchased your Packaging Your Portfolio Workshop DVD's. I expressed an interest in Medical Makeup, if you recall.
I am so hyped about my research and development in my quest for success as a makeup artist. Ever since I heard your story about foregoing the apple martini, I took your advice on that one and I gave up the cosmopolitan in the evening.
I didn't realize it until that light bulb went off in your seminar in Chicago. In the last two weeks, I have been more productive and on point more-so than I have been in quite some time. I feel I am on a fast track, however, it's the right track. I feel good about it.
Thank you Crystal Wright for you wit, wisdom, knowledge, recommendations and advise. And, for the 30 days at 100%. This has given me a breath of fresh air. I am gaining momentum on living a powerful, purposeful life. My Chicago trip was well worth it. You are worth it!
With Warm Regards,

Hi Crystal
It's Chell. It was such an inspiration to meet you. Thank you for being so approachable (even when I came up to you at least 4 times) You never were like "doesn't this child have somewhere to go". Your seminars were very inspirational and I like that fact that it didn't matter who was in the room. You where CRYSTAL WRIGHT. Everyone in the room admired and was captivated by you and the information you gave, and you still acknowledge God and hearing your answers from him (that's how i was raised as well).
I CAN NOT wait to start reading your book. Thank you for signing it for me. Now that I have had this wonderful opportunity to meet everyone––especially you, I will move forward and be who I need to be.
Thanks Again

Dear Ms. Wright,
I ran into you several years ago while attending Riverside Community College’s Cosmetology Instructor Trainee Program. you were promoting you book, “The Hair, makeup & Styling Career Guide”. I bought it and I can honestly say it inspired me to explore the possibilities of working as a hair and makeup artist in print and video. What I’ve discovered was a whole new venue for my career and I LOVE IT! Thank you for providing the detailed insight into the lives of those working in the business. They helped me as a freelancer to focus my interest and talent.
Also, the “Guide” gave me a clear “How To” approach for finding and negotiating jobs while building a portfolio. It also taught me the importance of securing jobs in a professional and businesslike manner.
The “Guide” continues to serve me as a reference when I need help in unfamiliar situations. Thanks for lighting the way.
Sincerely,

As a photographer participating in Crystal’s workshop, I was so impressed to see that what she was teaching was 100% accurate and honest.
Crystal tells it exactly how it is in the industry. By including photographers, working make up artists, hair stylists and wardrobe stylists on her panel, she clearly illustrates how all these facets are interconnected and dependant on one another to achieve a great photo shoot.
She is an expert in her field and I feel honored that she thinks enough of my work to include me on her panel to interact with her students.

Crystal,
I would like to tell you that I now work 90% of my year in the States and your seminar jump started that. Before I heard you speak here in Toronto for NABET [Local 700] I was really keeping a ceiling on where I would/could work.
I now have some of the best jobs I have ever had.
My starting hourly rate is at least 3X what it was back when I took your workshop. I have more work than I can handle and the companies that hire me all ask how they did their shows without me.
I have at least 3 crew members on every show I work on (I do about 7 a year across the US). Two of the three things I tell them to do is (1) get your book and (2) take your seminar. You changed my career and I owe you a heartfelt thank you.
Best,

Dear Crystal:
If there was ever a better tool to purchase other than my makeup supplies it is, “The Hair, Makeup, & Fashion Styling Career Guide”, however it took me some time to realize that.
At one point I was so disgusted trying to pursue my career I was ready to throw in the towel. I was talking to a friend that referred me to your agency, and thought maybe you could give me some insight on the business and getting started.
When I first called your office looking for assistance, Maleeza told me how helpful the “Guide” is and how it would answer all of my questions.
All the time I was saying to myself, “I don’t want to buy the book, I just want information on how to start my career as a makeup artist. A few days later and still discouraged, I called your office again and this time I spoke to you. You took the time and encouraged me to continue on with the aid of the “Guide”.
Relishing our conversation, I decided, “What the heck, and I purchased the book”. What took me so long to see the light? From the moment I purchased the “Guide” and began to read I could not put the book down until’ I finished it. I finished it within a few hours and I still read it over and over.
The Guide is a gold mine. I highly recommend it to anyone pursuing a career in makeup, hair, and fashion styling. I have made progress in leaps and hurdles as far as testing with photographers, networking with other artists, and working with film and photography students. I am currently working towards finding an assistant makeup artist position to start my new career.
Crystal, you and your staff can be sure that you will be hearing from me soon. I am currently working on building up my portfolio. Because of you and the “Guide” I am going to be one heck of a makeup artist.
Thanks again, and I will keep in touch.
Sincerely,
Debra Van Kallen

Hello Crystal,
I hope this message reaches you in good spirits. I am writing for two reasons. I hope that you received the thank-you card that I sent to you. I believe that God gives us the ability to attain knowledge for a reason, so that we can go out into the world to teach others, and I thank him for you.
Secondly, I wanted you to know that I have read The Hair, Makeup & Styling Career Guide that you let me use until I received the newer edition in the mail. I have read it from cover to cover and I love it. I will keep my promise to give the old book to my school library, so others will benefit from your knowledge.
Hope to hear from you soon,
